Newsletter and Society Emails

Our purpose for processing data under this section is to provide you with information about Society events and information relating to conspiracy theories that are in addition to the basic membership emails.

The lawful basis we rely on for processing your personal data is your consent under article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.

This section does not apply to emails sent as a result of your membership of the Society. Please see our section on data processing as a result of your membership if you'd like more information about that.

What data we collect

We need your first name, last name and email address.

Why we need your data

We need your email address to send you the newsletter, and your name to be able to create the emails we send to you.

What we do with your data

We only use your details to provide our newsletters and emails.

We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using standard industry practices to help us monitor and improve our communications with you.

You will receive a confirmation email once you have submitted your details, and then you'll receive emails whenever we need to give you information about events or we have a new newsletter.

Retention length

We hold this data while you're subscribed to the Society's mailing list. After you cease being subscribed to the list, the Society will hold the data for six more months.

Data processors

We use the Society's account on the Union's G Suite organisation (a service operated by Google) to manage our emails and member lists under this section.

We also use Mailchimp to manage our emails under this section.
